Anniversary Campaign: femLINKPACIFIC Regional Women=B9s Network on =
UNSCR1325

Suva, Fiji Islands

April 14 2010

Members of femLINKPACIFIC=B9s Regional Women=B9s Media Network will =
launch a new
information publication to commemorate the start of the network=B9s =
campaign
on the 10th Anniversary of the adoption of UN Security Council =
Resolution
1325 (Women, Peace and Security) at an event to be staged in =
collaboration
with the Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict =
(GPPAC), at
the Pacific Islands Forum tomorrow (April 15):

=B3This week FemLINKPACIFIC is pleased to be the convenor of the GPPAC
Pacific Regional Steering Group meeting which also involves the =
leadership
from our Regional Women=B9s Media Network on UNSCR1325 =AC so as =
champions of
UNSCR1325 we are certainly pleased to see the integration enabled =
through
the commitment by GPPAC to integrate and support 1325 initiatives in the
global, regional and national level.

So this week we have Peacewomen and men together at our Peacebuilding =
table
as members of a global civil society-led network which seeks to build an
international consensus on Peacebuilding and the prevention of violent
conflict. It is an important collaboration in this 10th anniversary year =
of
UNSCR1325 to strengthen the focus on women=B9s expertise and =
participation
within the field of conflict prevention, that is the prevention of new =
and
renewed violence,=B2 said femLINKPACIFIC Executive Director, Sharon =
Bhagwan
Rolls

Since 2007, with assistance from AUSAID, femLINKPACIFIC has convened the
Regional Women=B9s Community Media Network as well as the =B3Peace =
Talks=B2
project in an effort to build solidarity and collaboration with =
Peacewomen
in Fiji, Bougainville (PNG), Solomon Islands and Tonga, advocating
implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 (Women, Peace and
Security), within national and regional policy spheres, but also through =
a
Women, Peace and Human Security Framework:

=B3Our reports and policy recommendations stem from women in local
communities, because we believe that the inclusion of their expertise =
and
experiences will help to ensure, to build and to strengthen policies =
which
create sustainable peace and development in their communities and in our
nations,=B2 said Bhagwan Rolls

The femLINKPACIFIC network on UNSCR1325 10th anniversary campaign will
culminate in the production and launch of the network=B9s annual policy
document which will this year provide a 10 Years on Report, reflecting =
on
the network members contributions to the implementation of UNSCR1325 =
since
2000.
