Dear Luz and all, I just wanted to know if this
meeting is for anyone to attend or for steering committee members only. I just
returned from 30th CEDAW Session. On Jan.12 there was presentations Tulasa Lata
Amatya and I presented for Beyond Beijing Committee. As I mentioned earlier we
had prepared alternative report. It went very well. The Govenment presentations,
question and answers were on 14th. One thing I realized was I should have asked
help from APWW to find out more about expert members and to lobby each based on
their individual interests but everything happened so fast I did not have time
even to breathe. Since we had to wait for the reports of B+10 regional (Nepal)
to produce a draft alternative report we did not have much time for other
activities. We completed the regional consultations on Dec. 4. The submission
deadline for preliminary alternative reports to CEDAW Committee was Dec. 8. We
conducted the B+10 and CEDAW National Consultation on December 24th. After this
consultation we finalized the report and mailed hard copies to UN by Jan. 1, 04.
On top of all this we (HimRights, the other human rights organization I
started in 1998) conducted South Asia Policy Dialogue on
Human Trafficking and Migration, Dec. 21-22 another huge conference.
We were taking the outputs of that conference to SAARC Summit, Islamabad,
Jan. 2-6, 04. However, everythning went smoothly. Now we are preparing for B+10
National Conference in February. Once I find out from Mahmuda I will find out
whether she will be conducting the B+10 South Asia or I will be doing it. I am
waiting for her reply. This is the latest news so far.

Subject: [APWW-Meet] NGO Regional
Forum
Dear
Friends:
Thank you to all who have been writing and sending in more
names to add onto the list for information on Beijing +10 related
activities.
Many of you have received a summary of the NGO forum plans
but many others have not. For those of you who are new on the list, I am
resending the summary of the NGO regional forum plans. For those of you who
already have it, I am sorry for this double posting.
I also want to
inform all of you that the Convenors Group Meeting has been scheduled for
February 13 and 14 in Bangkok, Thailand. This 2 day meeting is to do the
following:
- 1. To establish an
organizational structure and work plan for the Forum including a
work
plan for each of the
working committees;
- 2. To identify point
persons for each of the working committees;
- 3. To carry out
consultations on the content and process of the NGO Forum.
- 4. To brainstorm on
funding for the Forum and the various
committees;
5. To
finalise the role and membership of Convenors Group and to establish a
communication
and
decision-making process.
Please keep in mind that this is a two-day
meeting and much will have to be done in these two days.
In the works
is also the idea of holding a Donors Meeting on February 17 in the morning to
bring to the donors who are based in Bangkok a plan of the NGO Forum and
suggestions for funding for components of the Forum program such as "shadow
reports", research for papers, panels and sub-regional and regional
consultations. We are planning for this to be a small meeting made up of the
APWW co-chairs, the Bangkok Host group, key persons from the Convenors Group
and the Chairs of the Programme and Finance Committee who will be decided upon
at the meetings of the 13 and 14.
We are encouraging regional groups to
attend the Convenors Group meeting. Unfortunately at this point we have no
funding so those interested in attending will need to fund themselves. For
your budgeting purposes, the hotel accommodations are 40.00 (US$) per night,
20.00 (US$) for meals and your transportation and travel fees. Taxi cost to
and from the airport to the St. James Hotel is about 25.00 (US$) airport fee
15.00 (US$)
If you are interested in attending the meeting, please let
me know as soon as possible so we can make hotel reservations for
you.
Looking forward to seeing you.
Sincerely,
Luz Maria
